WVExplorer Focus:
The Roof of West Virginia

The Allegheny Range of the Appalachian Mountains attains its highest elevation atop Spruce Knob -- at 4,861-feet-above sea level, the highest point in West Virginia. An observation tower marks the high ground and provides a focus for hikes through the surrounding tundra. Other spectacular vistas may be enjoyed nearby at Gaudeneer Knob and at Dolly Sods, in the northern Allegheny Highlands.
