West Virginia traditionally ranks high among U.S. states in any assessment of natural resources. Oil, coal, salt, sand, timber, and natural gas are reckoned, but every stream and landform must surely be included in a directory. Its cultural resources include its residents, past and present, and their enterprises and endeavors. Its natural resources include the interplaying features of air, earth, water, and natural forces that have created its unique landscape.
