West Virginia Rivers & Streams

West Virginia is culturally defined by its rivers and streams, despite its designation as "The Mountain State." Rivers and streams tie its communities together and provide the paths of least resistance along which its commerce travels. Rivers also accommodate some of the state's principal forms of recreation -- fishing, boating, and swimming. Though renowned as a destination for kayaking and whitewater rafting, West Virginia is the source of many sleepy rivers as well.
