GREEN BOTTOM, W.Va. — Officials at the W.Va. Division of Natural Resources have announced that the public boat ramp at Green Bottom Wildlife Management Area has reopened after a short closure.
According to Brett McMillion, the agency’s director, officials are evaluating plans for future upgrades to the facility to better serve West Virginia’s boating and fishing communities. McMillion said public notice will be issued before work begins on any improvements.
“We are committed to providing high-quality access to our state’s waterways,” McMillion said. “Future enhancements at Green Bottom are part of our ongoing effort to improve outdoor recreation opportunities for all visitors.”

The area also supports hunting for deer, rabbits, mourning doves, squirrels, and waterfowl. Deer hunting is limited to muzzle-loading rifles and archery equipment. Camping is not permitted within the wildlife management area.
Green Bottom is also known for wildlife viewing opportunities. More than 100 bird species are regularly observed there each year, along with dozens of mammal, amphibian, and reptile species. Habitat improvements, including nesting boxes and man-made islands, have been added to support wildlife populations.
