Known in native tongues as "Watoga" or "the river beyond," the Greenbrier River courses along Watoga State Park in its descent from the heights of the Allegheny Mountains in eastern West Virginia (WV). With more than 40 miles of hiking trail, the park preserves the best of all that the Watoga and Alleghenies offer -- pebbly islets, swift streams, remote mountain forests. Adjacent to the Greenbrier River Trail and Calvin Price State Forest, the park is a principal recreation destination. Overnight accomodations are provided in rustic park cabins and in park tent and RV campgrounds. A park restaurant, outdoor swimming pool, and an arboretum are among its primary draws.
Directions: Watoga State Park is located near Hillsboro, WV, and Marlinton, WV, in southern Pocahontas County, in the Allegheny Highlands Region in eastern West Virginia. The park is adjacent to the Monongahela National Forest. Watoga is also often considered to lie within the Greenbrier Valley Region.
