Cass Scenic Railroad State Park
Ascend by steam train from the historic village of Cass, on the Greenbrier River, to the second-highest peak in West Virginia at Cass Scenic Railroad State Park. Authentic coal-fired locomotives carry passengers on two- and 4.5-hour narrated excursions through the highlands and the history of timbering. Visitors who choose not to embark will be as entertained as they stroll through the town and its museums. Restored homes and cottages are available for rent year-round, though a remote cabin near the summit is available for rent in season. Excursions are provided late May through late October. Guests who ascend to the summit should dress warmly even in mid-summer.
Directions: Cass Scenic Railroad State Park is located east of Durbin, WV, and northwest of Dunmore, WV, in Pocahontas County, in the Alleghany Highlands Region of eastern West Virginia. The park is adjacent to the Monongahela National Forest.
