FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. — Sightseers in search of a view of the world-famous New River Gorge Bridge — though without the challenges of whitewater rafting — can board a specialized boat to travel into the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve in West Virginia.
The two-hour, 16-passenger scenic tours travel into the park from the marina at Hawks Nest State Park and depart multiple times a day, according to officials at Adventures on the Gorge, who are emphasizing the accessibility the tours accommodate.
Unlike whitewater rafting, which demands skill and maturity, boat tours can accommodate passengers of any age or fitness, says Roger Wilson, CEO of the outdoor adventure resort.
“It is our continuing goal to advance the boundaries of outdoor hospitality and to help everyone—no matter what their interests or abilities—be inspired by the outdoors and passionate about respecting and preserving nature for the benefit of everyone,” Wilson said.
“Our guides, adventure specialists, and other staff are continuously tuned in to the interests and comments of our guests, and we work hard to identify outdoor adventure trends and respond to them by adding to our offerings.”
The boat tours are available from May 1 through October 31. There are no age restrictions, and trips cost $39 for adults and $29 for youth.
Located on more than 350 acres along the rim of New River Gorge near Fayetteville, West Virginia, the adventure resort provides an array of outdoor experiences, including zip lines, canopy tours, rock climbing, and whitewater rafting on the New and Gauley rivers.
