West Virginia officials in 2013 warned Beckley that continued destruction in the Beckley Courthouse Square Historic District in Beckley, West Virginia, would have disastrous results. Rather than being restored in accordance with municipal code, many buildings have been demolished.
Dan Bickey, a developer, and his architect, J. Dan Snead & Associates, have proposed to demolish the buildings above for parking -- an action state officials warned could jeopardize the national historic district and state and federal assistance for buildings.
