A shootout between miners and company thugs erupted in 1920 in Matewan, West Virginia, in Mingo County, in what was known as the "Matewan Massacre." Today the town is a destination for ATV enthusiasts venturing on the Hatfield-McCoy Trails. Matewan is located in the Hatfield & McCoy Region.
