    W.Va. Wesleyan kicks off winter with concert series

    is welcoming winter in north-central West Virginia with a series of nine free musical performances in November and December, including a celebration of 50 years of jazz at the school.

    Including four large hallmark performances, the public series is being held principally at the school's campus in Buckhannon, West Virginia, and at nearby Elkins. (Scroll to the concert-series calendar below for a full account.)

    • The Fall Choral Concert will include the Wesleyan Singers, Concert Chorale, Concentus Vocum, and the Wesleyan Brass Quintet and will feature the works of Dan Forrest, Melchior Vulpius, Dominick Argento, and Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina.
    • A Celebration of 50 Years of Jazz Ensembles at Wesleyan will feature the David Milburn Era Group, directed by Neil Randolph, and the school's modern band, led by current jazz-ensemble director Dr. James Moore, dean of the faculty and chief academic officer.
    • Marching Band Concert The school's marching band will also present its annual concert. Its members recently marched during the Mountain State Forest Festival and have been presenting field shows across the region.
    • The Festival of Lessons and Carols, a , will feature the Wesleyan Singers, Concert Chorale, Concentus Vocum, the Wesleyan Brass Quintet. Carols will include arrangements by David Willcocks and Alice Parker.

    A private, coeducational, liberal arts college in , the school was founded in 1890 by the Methodist Episcopal Church in West Virginia.
