Parks partner with nonprofit to make golf more affordable for W.Va. youth

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia's state park system is partnering with a national nonprofit to help make golf more affordable at courses at Pipestem, Twin Falls, and Cacapon state parks.

Acting Chief of Parks Dillard Price said the agreement will provide visiting youth discounts, and rounds can be booked by walk-in or by calling the courses.

“The partnership provides young adults with an affordable opportunity to play our courses at a discounted rate,” Price said. "It’s about accessibility, affordability, and creating lifelong players."

"Youth on Course" is a California-based nonprofit established in 2006 to provide youth 18 and younger access to opportunities through golf.

Participants have played more than four million subsidized rounds of golf for $5 or less at thousands of partner courses throughout the U.S., Canada, and Australia.

Its members include the top juniors in the sport, competing on the American Junior Golf Association and the inaugural U.S. Golf Association Team.

Michael Lowe, head of impact at Youth on Course, said the organization was pleased to be working with young West Virginians.

“The addition of these courses to our membership network removes the barrier of cost, empowering young athletes to enjoy the sport, develop their skills, and create life-changing opportunities," Lowe said.

In West Virginia, Youth on Course membership has grown significantly in recent years, highlighting the growing demand for affordable access to the game.

"We are proud to partner with West Virginia State Parks to expand access to the sport across the state,” Lowe said.

West Virginia’s state parks and forests are the vacation destination of choice for more than seven million people each year.

Comprising 36 parks, nine forests, and three rail trails, the state parks system offers endless opportunities for family fun and adventure. Make memories that last forever.

West Virginia state parks are managed by the , a division of the West Virginia Department of Commerce.
