Bluestone will close its campgrounds, swimming and other low-ground facilities during the Memorial Day weekend.

UPDATE (May 31, 2017): Bluestone State Park has reopened following its closure over Memorial Day weekend. Due to high water from flooding on Bluestone Lake, sections of the park were closed during the holiday.

According to a release from the W.Va. Division of Natural Resources, all park facilities have reopened, with the exception of the Old Mill Campground, which is expected to be open by the end of the week.

Due to recent rains, Bluestone State Park, near Hinton, West Virginia, in Summers County, closed its campgrounds, swimming pool, picnic shelter, and boat launch during the Memorial Day 2017 weekend.

“Because of high water and flooding, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is holding water at Bluestone Dam, which will back up and affect facilities at Bluestone State Park,” said Mark Wylie, district administrator for  West Virginia State Parks.

During the high-water event, Bluestone State Park routinely closes all of its low-lying campgrounds, as well as its swimming pool, picnic shelter, and boat launch. High above the lake, ts cabins remain open year-round.

Park staff arranged courtesy-shuttles to the swimming pool at nearby Pipestem Resort State Park for Bluestone cabin guests and offered them refunds or the opportunity to reschedule camping trips to later in the summer.
