Pipestem Resort State Park
The rolling highlands that overlook the gorge of the Bluestone River have been enhanced at Pipestem Resort State Park, where overnight guests famously have a choice of two lodges, one accessible only by aerial tram. The tram, lodges, and two golf courses are principal attractions at the park, which is named for a local plant used to make pipe stems. Hiking, biking, horseback-riding, and cross-country skiing are favorite forms of recreation on trails that interlink with the Bluestone National Scenic River. Accommodations also include 26 cabins and an 82-unit campground. Indoor and outdoor swimming pools and fishing and boating are among top park draws.
Directions: Pipestem Resort State Park is located near Athens, WV, and Hinton, WV, in eastern Mercer County and western Summers County in the Bluestone Region of southern West Virginia (WV).
