Canaan Valley ski area to remain open through March 17

Warm as it may seem in the mid-Atlantic region, it's still unmistakably winter in the Allegheny Mountains in northern West Virginia, and the Canaan Valley Resort Ski Area is prepared to extend its ski season through March 17 or longer.

Thanks to exceptional wintry conditions and strategic snow-making, the resort is enjoying "epic spring conditions," according to general manager Steve Drumheller.

“Thanks to our great weather and hardworking mountain staff, the 2018/2019 ski season has been a standout, and it’s not over yet,” Drumheller said.

The ski area is scheduled to be open through March 17, or longer if conditions hold, he said.

The ski area boasts a summit elevation of 4,280 feet above sea level, and boasts 91 skiable acres accessible by four lifts — a quad, two triples, and a magic carpet.

The resort operates year-round and includes an 18-hole championship golf course and a lodge and cabins and a campground with access to indoor and outdoor pools.

The Canaan Valley is in the highest mountain valley to the east of the Rocky Mountains and is known for breathtaking views of the mountainous region.

Canaan Valley Resort is approximately three hours from Pittsburgh, 2½ hours from Washington, D.C. and 2¾ hours from Charleston, W. Va.
