Epic "Fright Nights" near Beckley expands into five large attractions

In its tenth year, the hugely popular Fright Nights haunt near Beckley, West Virginia, has been expanded into five attractions and has been relocated to the former equestrian center at Glade Springs, a wonderfully spooky October venue, says its creator.

“Utilizing this space will bring a more authentic feel to the haunt and gives us the opportunity to grow the event beyond people’s expectations,” says Ashley Long, Creative Director at The Resort at Glade Springs.

Patrons indulge in fearful fun during Fright Nights.

“Moving to this location will allow us to create a more realistic experience that will enhance the terror and fun that Fright Nights attendees have come to expect.”

More than 1,000 visitors nightly have turned out for the event in recent years, though more be expected this year as word of the expansion increases, Long says. This year's Fright Nights will be held each weekend in October from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.

The five new venues scheduled for 2019 include—

    • An alien-themed laser-tag experience titled “The Hive”
    • A chilling haunted-house experience titled “Deadwood Manor”
    • A terrifying trip through an institution for the criminally insane titled “The Asylum”
    • A spine-tingling, multi-sensory spectacle titled “Mr. Beard’s Freaks & Phobia’s Traveling Sideshow”
    • A flashlight-carrying attraction where visitors will try to find their way through the Pig Man’s deadly farm without being captured, titled “Slaughterhouse."

The Resort at Glade Springs has proven an excellent setting for Fright Nights, which has grown into one of the largest haunted-house venues in West Virginia, Long said.

"This is definitely the biggest project I've ever worked on," she said.

The resort and hotel are set in the midst of a 4,100-acre property near the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve and include three championship 18-hole golf courses, an indoor leisure center, a full-service spa and salon, and world-class fly fishing, boating, and miles of hiking and biking trails.

Glade Springs is a drive of 10 miles southeast of Beckley, 75 miles southeast of Charleston, 200 north of Charlotte, N.C., 225 miles southeast of Columbus, Ohio, 250 miles south of Pittsburgh, and 300 southwest of Washington, D.C.

*The Fright Nights team will also hold an “Area 51 Party” on September 20 to coincide with the viral “Storm Area 51” event in Nevada, and the public is invited to come experience "The Hive" that night before it opens in October and hang out by the bonfire, enjoy snacks and drinks, and watch an alien-themed film on our outdoor screen.
