West Virginia Governor Jim Justice emphasized the welcoming nature of state residents while making the announcement Wednesday morning.

“West Virginia stands ready to welcome anyone who may be in need of shelter as a result of Hurricane Dorian,” Justice said.

“We’re one of the most hospitable states in the country, and in a time when so many of our friends in nearby states are hurting, it’s the least we can do to offer a comfortable place to stay at our great state parks.”

West Virginia’s state parks and forests are the vacation destinations of choice for more than seven million annual visitors. The 35 parks, nine forests, and two rail-trails in the park system are managed by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, a division of the West Virginia Department of Commerce.
