is offering a 30-percent discount on vacation packages for West Virginia residents in association with the state's West Virginia Strong program, initiated by the governor in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

The offer will provide the discount to guests who reserve lodging for at least two nights between August 3-September 2 and will include lodging, three daily all-you-can-eat meals, and fees for all resort activities, except golf and spa packages, according to marketing manager Jonathan Bellingham.

Surrounding a historic mineral spring, the resort since 1850 has attracted guests in search of respite and, like Berkeley Springs and White Sulphur Springs, has remained a spa-retreat in continuous operation without much interruption despite the Civil War.

Capon welcomes guests to explore a world untouched by the outside.

Bellingham said joining the West Virginia Strong program seemed an ideal way to introduce West Virginians to the resort, which until only a decade ago remained an exclusive retreat, known by relatively few West Virginians despite its long-lived fame.

"Most West Virginians will have read about Capon Springs in their history books, but they're pleasantly surprised to find that this fairy-tale place is still in operation," he said.

"What better way to educate people, encourage healthy vacationing, and market the resort to new audiences than to reach out to the very people who love West Virginia the most—West Virginians!"

Long supposed to be the source of mineral waters that possessed curative properties, the springs attracted a collection of stately buildings and promenades over the last 150 years that are now listed on the .

In addition to its spa and golf course, the 4,700-acre resort off the Cacapon River is renowned for its period dining hall, spring-fed swimming pool, and vintage croquet lawn and ping-pong pavilions.

The bandstand at Capon Springs is a favorite gathering place.

Bellingham said that in addition to introducing West Virginians to a living chapter in state history, the discount will also provide an opportunity for many to travel a newly completed scenic section of the U.S. 48 expressway between Davis and Wardensville.

"Capon Springs is now a drive of fewer than three hours from Weston, Morgantown, and Lewisburg," he said.

"What's more, the U.S. 48 expressway a beautiful route with scenic overlooks and proximity to amazing state parks and national forests."

To receive the discount, guests must complete a and include the code "WV STRONG" in the comment field. A member of the reservations team will afterward make contact to finalize the reservation.
