The parking lot for the Kaymoor and Butcher Branch trailheads in the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve near Fayetteville, West Virginia, will close during resurfacing on July 11-14.
The trailheads, located at what's known as Kaymoor Top, will remain open with parking available at the nearby Arrowhead trailhead parking lot, according to acting park superintendent Jay Newman.
Newman said the lot will reopen on Friday, July 15, but will close again Saturday, July 16, until around 1 p.m. during a volunteer project. Parking will be available that morning at the Arrowhead trailhead parking lot.
Park volunteers will be painting, installing new parking lot bumpers, and removing litter and vegetation around the parking area.
The steep Kaymoor Trail is among the best-known trails in the park and is renowned for its 821-step staircase that ascends the flank of the gorge.
