Moorefield, West Virginia (WV), the county seat of Hardy County, was chartered in 1777 and named for Conrad Moore, who owned the lands upon which the town was platted. Located in the heart of the fertile valley of the South Branch of the Potomac River, Moorefield is one of the most important agricultural centers in West Virginia. Moorefield is located on highways US-220 and WV-28 one mile southwest of the US-48 expressway, 12 miles northeast of Petersburg, West Virginia, 25 miles southwest of Romney, West Virginia, and 25 miles west of Wardensville, West Virginia.
