The McCullough Mound is located on the south side of the Kanawha River approximately five miles above its mouth in Mason County near Point Pleasant, West Virginia. It is one of several mounds excavated in West Virginia in the 1880s by the Bureau of American Ethnology of the Smithsonian Institution.
The mound was approximately 20 feet high and 300 feet in circumference at the time of excavation, but is apparently much smaller today. The remains of at least six adults and several children were discovered, but no personal items were found.
