Lost River State Park
The headwaters of the Lost River arise in the mountains at Lost River State Park, a former vacation retreat for the family of “Light Horse Harry” Lee in eastern West Virginia (WV). Miles of hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails wander the park, ascending to the heights of Big Ridge and its overlooks of North, South Branch, and Shenendoah mountains. Eleven modern cabins and fifteen rustic cabins of stone and timber accommodate guests. An outdoor pool, game courts, a historic firetower, the Cranny Crow shelter, and the preserved Lee cabin and spring are among park highlights. The northern reaches of the Washington & Jefferson National Forests approach the park from the east.
Directions: Lost River State Park is located at Mathias, south of Moorefield and southwest of Wardensville, WV, in Hardy County, in the Potomac Branches Region in eastern West Virginia.
