A minor tributary of the upper Ohio River, Tomlinson Run descends through a woodland of ridges in Tomlinson Run State Park, wandering through a narrow gorge along the way. The park is unique in that it is the only West Virginia preserve that protects such an Ohio River tributary for exploration. Upstream of the gorge, 33-acre Tomlinson Run Lake and series of fishing ponds are central to the developed area of the park, which includes game courts, picnic areas, an outdoor pool, and disk and miniature golf courses. Hiking, biking, fishing, boating, and picnicking are principal recreational pursuits in the park. Fifty-four tent and RV campsites accommodate overnight guests.
