Tygart Lake and the forested hills to its northwest have been preserved as part of Tygart Lake State Park, a recreation destination in which the lake is the principal attraction. Fishing and beach swimming are seasonal favorite pursuits on the lake, an impoundment of the Tygart Valley River, and boating is a popular pastime when weather allows. The park marina offers slip, fishing, and pontoon boats rentals, though boaters are permitted to launch their own watercraft. Kayaking and canoing are popular in coves and upstream areas. Overnight guests can be accomodated in 11 modern cottages, forty tent and RV campsites, and a lodge with a full-service restaurant.
Directions: Tygart Lake State Park is located near Grafton, WV, in central Taylor County, in the Monongahela Valley Region in northern West Virginia (WV).
