Bayard, WV, a community in Grant County, was incorporated in 1893 and named in honor of Thomas F. Bayard, a U.S. Senator from Delaware (1923-1929). Bayard stands along the North Branch of the Potomac River.
Coal mining has long been a chief industry in Bayard, which is located approximately two miles south of US-50 at Gormania, West Virginia.
