Eight waterfalls to visit this summer in West Virginia

    No. 6: Sandstone Falls

The New plunges through falls near Sandstone, W.Va.

"Pretty much the granddaddy of West Virginia waterfalls, Sandstone Falls on New River offers all that a waterfall-hound could wish -- a thundering cataract accompanied by many smaller steps, chutes, and cascades. A system of wheelchair-accessible boardwalks leads visitors to observation decks that view the high falls. Trails off the boardwalk wander in and around wooded islands and lead to many small swimming holes, though wading in the river near the deadly main cataract should be avoided."

    Location: near Hinton, West Virginia
    GPS: 37.75833 N, 80.90556 W
    Height: 10-25 feet
    Access: Very Easy
