Eight waterfalls to visit this summer in West Virginia

Share

West Virginia is home to some of the most spectacular waterfalls in the eastern U.S. Most will have weakened by June, when many of us are ready to escape summer’s heat, so we asked the creator and editor of Daytripper to provide us a list of must-see falls that offer refreshment through summer. Lisa Stansell dedicates an annual issue of her travel publication to the subject. A map of these waterfalls follows this article.

No. 1: Blackwater Falls

“One of the most impressive waterfalls in the eastern U.S., the high falls of the Blackwater River is the centerpiece of Blackwater Falls State Park. An observation area near the park’s lodge provides guests a bird’s-eye view, though many visitors opt to follow the elaborate staircase of more than 200 steps to an observation deck near the base of the falls. Several viewing platforms and benches are located along the way.”
