CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia ski resorts are experiencing one of their best seasons in over a decade, with exceptional conditions expected for President’s Day weekend (Feb. 15-17), according to state officials.
Tom Wagner, president of the West Virginia Ski Areas Association, said an additional 8 to 10 inches of snowfall is forecasted over the weekend.
“I can’t remember the last time we’ve had conditions this pristine,” Wagner said of the 2024-2025 ski season. “Right now, the slopes are incredible, setting the stage for a perfect holiday weekend.”
So far in 2025, more than 142 inches of snow have accumulated in the state’s high mountain peaks, further boosted by billions of gallons of man-made snow—ensuring that all skiable terrain remains open.
Chelsea Ruby, West Virginia’s tourism secretary, said her office expects ski conditions to remain outstanding for the rest of the winter.
“This season has delivered an incredible amount of snow, creating perfect conditions for outdoor winter adventures,” Ruby said. “We anticipate these ideal conditions will continue for weeks to come.”
West Virginia boasts several world-class alpine destinations, including Timberline Mountain, Winterplace Ski Resort, Snowshoe Mountain Resort, Canaan Valley Resort State Park, and the Nutting Winter Sports Complex at Oglebay Park.
For Nordic skiing enthusiasts, scenic cross-country trails and snowshoeing opportunities await at White Grass Ski Touring Center, Blackwater Falls State Park, and the Monongahela National Forest.
Canaan Valley also features one of the longest multi-lane snow tubing parks in the Mid-Atlantic, and Snow Riders Tubing Hill in Harpers Ferry provides guests with a psychedelic LED-lit tubing experience.
Winter adventure awaits snowmobiles on snow-covered trails at Snowshoe and ATVs on the Hatfield-McCoy Trail System.
West Virginia’s commitment to inclusivity shines through adaptive skiing programs at Snowshoe, Timberline, and Canaan Valley, which are run in collaboration with the Challenged Athletes of West Virginia.
