    West Virginia shifts future meeting time for natural resources to boost public access

    CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Officials at the West Virginia have announced that future meetings of the state's natural resources commission will begin at 6 p.m. to make it easier for the public to participate.

    The decision follows the success of the July 24 commission meeting, which was the first to be held in a hybrid format. Members of the public were able to attend in person at all six of the division's district offices or watch live online.

    Since then, the meeting has been viewed more than 2,000 times on YouTube, underscoring strong public interest in hunting, fishing, and wildlife management.

    Brett McMillion, director of the division, headquartered in , said he was excited about the public's positive reactions to the new meeting time and format.

    “We are very pleased with the turnout for our first hybrid NRC meeting and encouraged by the increased participation it generated,” McMillion said.

    “We also appreciate the feedback we received about the meeting time and are glad to make this change so more people can join the conversation about West Virginia’s hunting, trapping, and fishing regulations.”

    The next commission meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 6, at 6 p.m. Members of the public who wish to address the commission must attend in person at one of the following locations:

    • District 1: 1110 Railroad St, Farmington, WV 26571
    • District 2: 1 Depot St, Romney, WV 26571
    • District 3: 738 Ward Rd, Elkins, WV 26241
    • District 4: 2006 Robert C Byrd Dr, Beckley, WV 25801
    • District 5: 112 California Ave, Charleston, WV 25305
    • District 6: 76 Conservation Way, Parkersburg, WV 26104

    The West Virginia Natural Resources Commission advises the division on the management and protection of West Virginia’s fish, game, and wildlife, including setting hunting and fishing regulations, season dates, and bag limits.
