Now a national historic landmark, the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Depot at Huntington, West Virginia, in Cabell County, covers a city block and includes an 1887 passenger station, an 1890 freight station, and a 1945 addition that served as a Greyhound Bus Depot until 1952. The station was central to the city’s business district and played an important role in its development. Presidents Teddy Roosevelt, Warren G. Harding, and Dwight Eisenhower made campaign speeches at the depot from the rear of their trains. Working with the Greater Huntington Parks and Recreation District and the Cabell-Huntington Convention and Visitors Bureau, Thomas McChesney developed and implemented a plan to convert the station into a vibrant artisan retail complex in the 1980s.
