ROANOKE, W.Va. — According to West Virginia officials, the state’s National Hunting and Fishing Day celebration will return to Stonewall Resort State Park in Roanoke in September.
Brett McMillion, director of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, says the annual event promotes hunting and fishing traditions in the Mountain State and has become a hallmark event for youth enthusiastic about wildlife conservation and outdoor adventure.
“This annual event is great for hunters and anglers and is designed to build the next generation of wildlife and conservation enthusiasts through the Outdoor Youth Challenge,” McMillion said while announcing the decision to return to the park.
Guests attending the one-day event can participate in seminars and presentations about wildlife conservation and meet vendors showcasing the latest outdoor equipment and services.
With the return of last year’s popular new attraction, “A Taste of State Parks,” visitors will also get to sample a variety of wild game, Appalachian favorites, and signature dishes from West Virginia state parks.
The one-day celebration’s popular Outdoor Youth Challenge is designed to engage kids in hands-on activities, such as fishing, shooting sports, wildlife identification, and safety demonstrations.
Participating youth are entered into a drawing for several prizes, including scholarships to W.Va. Conservation Camp and a lifetime hunting and fishing license.
