Babcock State Park may be best known as the site of the Glade Creek Grist Mill, one of the most photographed landmarks in West Virginia. Pictures of the mill appear in art and travel guides throughout the world. More than 4,000 acres of forest and stream attract visitors to the Babcock, which adjoins the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. Twenty miles of park trail are open to hiking, and 10 miles are managed for biking and horseback riding. Twenty-eight cabins and 52 tent and RV campsites are provided for overnight guests. Other park amenities include a restaurant, an outdoor pool, and fishing lake. Adventureres often trek to the ghost town of Sewell, West Virginia, in the remote lower park.
Location: Babcock State Park is located in the northern New River Gorge Region in Fayette County, near Ansted, Rainelle, and Fayetteville.
