Beartown State Park
Boardwalks and observation decks leads visitors through a mossy maze of boulders long known as Beartown at Beartown State Park. Massive blocks of sandstone interlaced with deep crevices and cave-like openings attract visitors throughout the year. To many, the rocks might seem a village, though black bear have not been known to den at Beartown for more than a century. Limited facilities are provided guests at the park, though restrooms with wheelchair access are located at the boardwalk parking area. During the winter months, the boardwalk parking area is closed and visitors are required to walk a quarter mile from the park gate.
Directions: Beartown State Park is located near Hillsboro, WV, and Marlinton, WV, in the southern Allegheny Highlands Region and northern Greenbrier Valley Region on the border of northern Greenbrier County and southern Pocahontas County in eastern West Virginia (WV). The park is located amid the southern Monongahela National Forest. Beartown is a landmark in the Fallout 76 video game.
