West Virginia Explorer welcomes news tips, story ideas, corrections, photographs, documents, and information from readers across West Virginia and beyond.
Our newsroom covers the people, places, institutions, history, culture, economy, environment, and issues that shape the Mountain State. Some of our best reporting begins when a reader, source, or community member brings something important to our attention.
Send Us a News Tip
If you know of a developing story, public issue, unusual event, historical discovery, community concern, or other subject that deserves attention, we want to hear from you.
When possible, include specific details that help us evaluate and verify the information, such as names, dates, locations, documents, photographs, public records, or contact information for knowledgeable sources.
Submitting a tip does not guarantee coverage. Editorial decisions are made by the West Virginia Explorer newsroom based on newsworthiness, public interest, available resources, and our editorial standards.
Suggest a Story
Readers are welcome to suggest topics for future reporting and features.
West Virginia Explorer is especially interested in stories that illuminate West Virginia—its communities, people, history, culture, economy, environment, recreation, institutions, and its changing landscape.
We welcome suggestions from individuals, businesses, nonprofit organizations, public agencies, historians, researchers, community groups, and other knowledgeable sources. Story suggestions are considered editorially and do not constitute an agreement to publish.
Report an Error
Accuracy is fundamental to our journalism.
If you believe an article contains a factual error or needs clarification, please contact the newsroom and identify the article, the information you believe is incorrect, and, when possible, provide documentation or other evidence supporting the correction.
Substantive corrections and clarifications are handled in accordance with our Corrections & Clarifications Policy.
Contact us as a Source
People with firsthand knowledge, professional expertise, historical information, documents, photographs, or other relevant material are encouraged to contact our journalists.
Please tell us if information is sensitive or if you wish to discuss confidentiality before providing information you do not want made public. A request for confidentiality does not automatically establish a confidential-source relationship; you should discuss those arrangements explicitly with a journalist.
West Virginia Explorer protects confidential sources when confidentiality has been expressly agreed upon in accordance with our editorial standards.
Photographs, Documents, and Historical Materials
West Virginia Explorer frequently works with historical and contemporary photographs, maps, manuscripts, public records, archival materials, and reader- and source-submitted photographs.
When submitting material, please provide as much information as possible about its origin, date, subject, photographer or creator, and copyright or ownership status.
Submitting material for consideration does not automatically transfer copyright or grant West Virginia Explorer permission to publish it. Establish publication rights separately as needed.
Press Releases and Media Information
Organizations may send press releases, announcements, research findings, public notices, event information, and other materials to the newsroom for consideration.
Press releases are treated as informational sources rather than guaranteed editorial content. West Virginia Explorer may independently verify, supplement, contextualize, rewrite, or decline material based on its editorial judgment.
Coverage cannot be purchased through the newsroom.
Advertising and Business Inquiries
The newsroom does not handle requests to purchase favorable coverage, editorial placement, reviews, or news articles.
Direct advertising and other commercial inquiries to West Virginia Explorer’s Advertising department. Advertising relationships do not influence newsroom coverage.
