Oakvale, West Virginia (WV), a community in Mercer County, was incorporated in 1907 along the East River and named for large oaks growing in its valley. Oakvale was formerly known as "Frenchville" in honor of a family, named French, that settled the region. Central to an outdoor destination area, the Tate Lohr Wildlife Management Area is located three miles upstream of the community; the Bluestone Lake Wildlife Management Area, 10 miles downstream.

Oakvale is located on highway WV-112 less than a mile from the US-460 expressway and approximately seven miles west of Glen Lyn, Virginia, and nine miles east of Princeton, West Virginia.
