National Historic Landmark -- Wymer, West Virginia -- Randolph County
Three log cabins sit on a 3.5-acre lawn beside a spring-fed pond near Camp Five Run in the Monongahela National Forest. Originally built as outpost housing for park rangers, the Middle Mountain Cabins are now provided for recreational use to visitors touring the Monongahela National Forest. In 1931, Ranger Don Gaudineer planned and supervised the construction of the main cabin in a style he adapted from Chilson Aldrich's book, "The Real Log Cabin." In 1939, two cabins were added as bunkhouses in a style more compliant with Civilian Conservation Corps construction.
