    Auditorium focus of W.Va. preservation banquet Sept. 30

    The Municipal Auditorium in Charleston, W.Va., will host the annual state Preservation Alliance awards banquet Sept. 30.

    Charleston's on Sept. 30 will host and serve as the focus of the annual banquet for the Preservation Alliance of West Virginia, which this year is emphasizing the economic importance of the state's historic theaters.

    Following guided tours of the auditorium and nearby Capitol Theatre at 5 p.m., a reception at 6 p.m. and a 6:30 p.m. dinner featuring speakers Brooks McCabe, former chair of the state Senate Committee on Economic Development, and Patrick Seymour of the Theatre Historical Society of America, the alliance will present its annual awards for state preservation leaders.

    The historic Charleston auditorium stands out among state theater and performance venues.

    Delegate Larry Rowe, master of ceremonies for the banquet, will present the awards to state leaders in the industry.

    The event is open to the public, and tickets may be purchased until the day of the event. The banquet will have a 1950s-era theme, so attendees are encouraged to come dressed in their favorite fashions from the period.

    The event is being hosted in partnership with the Kanawha Valley Historical & Preservation Society.
