The 500-acre Tate Lohr Wildlife Management Area (WMA) ranges across moderate slopes that climb from 2,100 to 3,550 feet above sea level on the north flank of East River Mountain. Game traditionally hunted in the management area includes deer, squirrel, raccoon, and turkey, though hunting is limited as a result of the relatively small size of the management area. The management area encircles the Tate Lohr Fish Hatchery. Camping is prohibited.
Directions: The Tate Lohr Wildlife Management Area is located in southern Mercer County four miles south of Oakvale, WV. From the US-460 expressway at Oakvale, WV, on Goodwins Chapel Road (WV-112) follow Morgan Road and Christie Road (CR-219/6) approximately two miles to a right turn onto Hales Gap Road. Follow the latter approximately 1.5 miles to a left turn onto Neale Chapel School Road (CR-219/9). The management area is one half mile farther.
The Tate Lohr WMA is managed by the W.Va. Division of Natural Resources. It was formerly known as the Tate Lohr Public Hunting & Fishing Area.
