The southern reach of the Bluestone Wildlife Management Area approaches the community on the northwest. The Jones Diamond
The Jones Diamond, 34.48 carats, the second largest diamond found in the U.S., was discovered near Petersburg, though no diamond-bearing rocks otherwise exist in the area.

Peterstown is located on highway US-219 approximately 30 miles south of Hinton, West Virginia, 25 miles southwest of the county seat at Union, West Virginia, and two miles west of the US-460 expressway at Rich Creek, Virginia.
