Poca, West Virginia (WV), is a community on the Kanawha River in Putnam County. The town is so-named for the Pocatalico River, which in the Shawnee tongue has been translated to mean "river of fat doe" and which joins the Kanawha River just below Poca. The Poca High School mascot, the "dot," is a pun derived from the polka-dot pattern and the river.
