Glasgow, West Virginia

Glasgow, West Virginia (WV), a community on the Kanawha River in Kanawha County, was incorporated in 1920. Its name is derived from a combination of the words “glass” and “company” and a play on the city of Glasgow in Scotland. The Glasgow Glass Company operated factory on the Kanawha River at Glasgow.

Glasgow is located on highway US-60 approximately 15 miles southeast of Charleston, West Virginia, eight miles west of Smithers, West Virginia, and 20 miles west of Gauley Bridge, West Virginia. The community adjoins Cedar Grove, West Virginia, on the northwest.
