West Virginia communities are often defined by rivers and their valleys.  Rivers and streams tie communities together and provide the paths of least resistance along which commerce travels. Rivers also accommodate some of the state’s principal forms of recreationfishing, boating, and swimming. Though renowned as a destination for kayaking and whitewater rafting, West Virginia is the source of many sleepy rivers as well.
