Wheeling Island is the most populated island in the Ohio River and one of the river's largest islands. It is part of the City of Wheeling, West Virginia, in Ohio County, with a resident population of 3,142, according to the 2000 U.S. Census. It has a land area of 374 acres.

The island is connected to downtown Wheeling via the Fort Henry Bridge, which carries Interstate 70, U.S. Route 40, and U.S. Route 250 over the Ohio River, and the historic Wheeling Suspension Bridge, long the conduit for the National Road.

The island is home to the Wheeling Island Racetrack and Gaming Center, at Wheeling Downs, and Wheeling Island Stadium, home of the West Virginia State Football Championships. Wheeling Island boasts a national historic district featuring many Victorian homes. Schools, churches, and many restaurants are located on the island.

The island was originally known as Zanes Island and Madison Island. Residents refer to it simply as "The Island." Island residents maintain "" website.
