Hamlin, West Virginia

Hamlin, West Virginia (WV), the county seat of Lincoln County, was chartered in about 1869. Records of the event were destroyed in a fire at the court house in 1909.  Hamlin was named for Bishop Leonidas Lent Hamline, who established the Hamline Methodist Episopal Church a mile from the present town. A conflicting account holds that the town was named for Hannibal Hamlin, vice president under the first Lincoln administration. Hamlin is located on the Mud River,
