
Hampshire County, West Virginia
Hampshire County, located in eastern West Virginia (WV), is the oldest county in the state, established in 1753 and named after Hampshire, England. Its seat is at Romney, also the oldest incorporated community in West Virginia. Hampshire is primarily agricultural and renowned for its pastoral beauty.
The North River, the Cacapon River, and the South Branch of the Potomac River flow northward across the county to join the Potomac River. Ice Mountain, beneath which winter ice lingers long into summer, is located near North River Mills. As of the 2010 census, its population was 23,964.
