Masontown, West Virginia

Masontown, West Virginia, a community in Preston County, was incorporated in 1902 and named for William Mason, its founder and first postmaster. The town was a coal-mining and industrial center until the late 1900s. Masontown is now chiefly a bedroom community of Morgantown. Cornwell Cave, a largely unexplored limestone cavern, is located just west of the town and was once a tourist attraction.

Deckers Creek and the Deckers Creek Trail course through the town. The Snake Hill Wildlife Management Area is located on the south flank of the Cheat River approximately five miles north of Masontown.

Masontown is located on highway WV-7 approximately three miles north of Reedsville, West Virginia, and 13 miles west of Morgantown, West Virginia.
