
Masontown, West Virginia
Masontown, West Virginia, a community in Preston County, was incorporated in 1902 and named for William Mason, its founder and first postmaster. The town was a coal-mining and industrial center until the late 1900s. Masontown is now chiefly a bedroom community of Morgantown. Cornwell Cave, a largely unexplored limestone cavern, is located just west of the town and was once a tourist attraction.
