A whitewater rafting trip on the New River is only a bus-ride away for residents of the Kanawha Valley, thanks to a partnership between River Expeditions and the Charleston Convention & Visitors Bureau.

On the first Saturdays of July, August, and September, the bureau’s Fun Bus will leave Charleston for a day of adventure near Fayetteville, West Virginia, in the New River Gorge, according to a release from the bureau.

The all-inclusive package with one of the state’s best known whitewater rafting outfitters includes transportation, a two-to-three-hour rafting trip, all the necessary equipment, and lunch for $85 plus tax.

Though not included int the Fun Bus promotion, River Expeditions also offers zipline tours, rock climbing, mountain biking, and a paintball field on a 100-acre basecamp at Fayetteville near the rim of the gorge.

Its resort center also includes a dining hall, outfitters shop, meeting facilities, and an outdoor pool and hot tub as well as the saloon and grill, and visitors are welcome to stay in their choice of campgrounds as well as dozens of rustic and deluxe cabins.

Reservations are required, according to the bureau. The bus departs Charleston at 9 a.m. and returns at approximately 5 p.m. To make the required reservation, call 800-463-9873 and use offer code FUN BUS.
