Cranberry Mountain Nature Center hosts native orchid tour

MARLINTON, W.Va. — Officials at the Monongahela National Forest are inviting the public to visit the Cranberry Mountain Nature Center for its annual Native Orchid Tour Saturday, June 24, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The program begins at the Cranberry Mountain Nature Center with a presentation followed by a guided trip to Cranberry Glades Botanical Area and the surrounding highlands.

Rosanna Springston, a forest employee and wildflower enthusiast, will lead the tour. The program is free and will take place rain or shine. Reservations are not required, and participants should wear appropriate footwear for hiking.

The Cranberry Mountain Nature Center is open Thursday through Monday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. It features a display area with live snakes, wildflowers, interactive children’s displays, and animals of West Virginia. There is also a nature store with educational materials, books, clothing, and toys.

The Nature Center also hosts a live snake presentation most Sundays at 1 p.m.
